Thank you jojo. Tia had a breakfast of fresh fried liver to help with her anemia. Yum. Followed with a handful of pills. Her eyes look more focused today.

Not again linen. Round two for heart ache. Just know that Tia will no longer feel pain even though you will, it will pass. Time heals all. Also know that you gave your dogs the best life you could give them and that are grateful for it.

Yes, again Yoda. This was unexpected. With the loss of this, my last livestock guardian dog, my 5 remaining ducks have to be put to sleep as well. I will not wait for a fox, raccoon or skunk to come and pick them off one by one. These ducks are not rehomeable. All are at least 10 years old, a few have never known another home. We will wait until the ditch water is turned off for the year Oct 15th, and then we will figure out a way to get the ducks to the vet to be euthanized.
This is an end to an era. No more of my dogs or ducks running around the yard. Hubby has a dog but he's just a regular pet. Not a working dog.

That is sad linen. Big dogs on average have 10 years before they chew on the pearly bone. Plus they give you something that is not seen. Unconditional love and trust..

We've all been through the loss of pets. It never gets easy. These are the last animals we will take in. The thought of my pet going to an animal shelter after I die would make me turn over in my grave. I've seen them in shelters. Their eyes so full of grief. The loss of their caregiver and their home.

I need to be busy right now. Yesterday I rode along while my hubby drove to Salida to drop off his hunting trailer to have it serviced. Things can break down. Hoses can rot. Refrigerator and heater can stop working. And with "these trying times" it is a good idea to have it serviced and ready if we have to bug out. Lol, not much of bugging out when you take a camp trailer. But at our ages it's the best we can do.
We stopped at a McDonald for some lunch. I won't eat gluten but the fries are gluten free so we got 2 large fries and split a big ice tea. It's been 8 years since I have been in a restaurant of any kind and I was disoriented. Fill cup, find napkins, etc. I don't feel comfortable eating in the building so we ate in the car. Such a weird experience after being out of a food establishment for so long. I watched the people around me moving. They take for granted such a place.
Today is the last hot day before fall temps kick in. I do this every year. I wait until the very last before I defrost my freezers. Ugh. One is almost done and then I have a (antique) refrigerator with a small freezer compartment that needs to be defrosted. Then into the big garage and 2 chest freezers need to be done. I'll do those two tomorrow.
Yesterday I crock potted a corn beef brisket with cabbage, carrots, onion and potatoes. Today I jarred the filtered broth and am canning it. I got 4 pints. It will be ready to take out of my canner in another 45 minutes.
Staying busy.

I need to defrost my freezers too. I have two large ones in the basement and then the one upstairs with the fridge. I have been binge cleaning the entire house. All I have left to do is the freezers and fridge and stove.
I can imagine how you felt being in a restaurant after all those years. All the micro plastics in the foods is what gets me. I was reading an article the other day that says we consume enough plastic a week to make a credit card!

The beauty in going hard, tough and extreme in my youth apart from wrecking my body in the process is that I can sit back and watch the world go by along with its madness. I've seen and have experienced a lot. I have no desire for travel any more unless it is with aliens to outer space.

I'm glad I eat at home. Mostly homemade foods. I still have one chest freezer to defrost, I think the other one is okay for another year. Ugh. Not right now. We made plans last night to have the ducks euthanized. Not in the mood to breathe right now. We still have some days in the 70's in the next few weeks. I'll get the one freezer done before it cools off to much.
