Over 56 billion farmed animals are killed every year by humans. These shocking figures do not even include fish and other sea creatures whose deaths are so great they are only measured in tonnes.
As children we are conditioned to view cows, pigs, chickens, sheep and fish as inferior beings whose reason for existence is to provide us with meat, milk and eggs. This way of seeing other species is known as speciesism. It's time for us to change the way we see the other animals with which we share the planet. We need to stop thinking of them as just resources, and to start viewing them for who they are: individual sentient beings whose lives deserve to be respected and valued.
As new technology emerges and new scientific ways of growing "lab meat" it's important we begin to focus on alternative solutions to ending billions of animals lives. Not only could this greatly contribute to the re-growth and healing of the planet, but it would also free us the burden killing animals for their meat. A lot of people and groups demand animal equality and for us to stop eating meat, but fail to realise how funamentally hard that is to shift an entire percentage of the population that are dedicated meat eaters to an alternative diet. This is where supplementation comes in handy such as lab grown meats and other "Fake" meat alternatives.
Many argue that you cannot get enough protein from a plant based diet. This is entirely false. Elephants and Giraffes are prime examples and here are some other links and research done on the subject.

Studies say that by adopting a vegan diet we can personally save up to 95 animals a year, and thousands during our lifetimes. This should be taken into consideration, as well as other alternatives for people that do not wish to make a change to such a life style. More research and investment funding needs to take place to make this a reality for all of us. Thankfully it has been picking up pace and has shown promising results.
And that was in 2013. Most of the individuals that die for our consumption are fish. So great is the quantity of bodies that they are counted by the tonne, which makes it difficult to calculate just how many die. Despite the numbers in which they are caught and how they are regarded, fishes are individuals with the capacity to experience pleasure and pain, as confirmed by numerous scientific studies. According to Huntiford (2002), fishes have senses for detecting stimulation of pain, and cerebral mechanisms which process the stimulation and provoke negative physical responses.
Many different methods are used to catch fishes but almost all of them will die a gruesome death. Victims of commercial fishing nets tend to die of suffocation, or crushed under the weight of the other fish or frozen in the boat’s cooling chambers. Others go through agonizing decompression when they are hauled to the surface and their eyes and internal organs literally explode. Fishes hooked on lines or by anglers endure having their sensitive mouth parts ripped open by sharp hooks before being clubbed or suffocated. On fish farms many thousands of fishes are crammed together and forced to swim in circles. Parasites and infections run rampant on fish farms, and can spread to wild fish.
There is a whole other story related to by-catch, plastic particle pollution, and other horrors that have been unfolding in the oceans and lands. It is time we bring awareness to these practices and put a stop to the destruction and killing of this planet and its animals. If you think about it, animals are a part of nature. Nature is mother Gaia's soul and the earth is her body. Native Americans long understood and had respect for the mother earth that feeds, houses, and lets us live on her surface. We should respect her for giving us life, and give her life back. I will never understood why such mindless, soulless destruction of the planet has been allowed due to greed and corporate interest and agenda.
While much progress has been made we have much to do and many to hold accountable.
Here are some good documentaries, shows, etc on this subject and on animal treatment in general. Everything below can be found on NetFlix.

Chicken Farms, and their awful conditions that have been caught on Video.
“You didn’t see that” — Hidden Camera Exposes Horrible Secret of McDonald’s and Tyson’s Chicken Farming (video)
The organization Mercy For Animals set up a camera into a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget supplier (seen delivered by a Tyson truck). What they discovered was nauseating: chickens were beaten, jammed into tight spaces, murdered by stabbing them with nails, and left to die slowly in suffering.
In the beginning of the video, you see the worker ask the undercover videographer not knowing he was recorded: “You don’t work for PETA, do you?” as he begins to stab a random chicken to death with a nail attached to a stick.
They know what they are doing is wrong.
As one point of the video, the worker says “You didn’t see that” as he hits more birds. Another worker is shown holding one of the birds the first worker shoved in a bucket.
The rest of the video shows issues of overcrowding, filthy living conditions ridden with bugs, sick birds, and birds with leg deformities (a common occurrence).
Watch the video for yourself. (Warning: graphic content).
The video by Mercy For Animals was posted in 2015, and Tyson has stated that they are looking into the issue and they are taking this “very seriously.”
Yet, in August 2016 another undercover video of Tyson’s factory (supplying McDonalds and KFC) recorded by Compassion Over Killing. In the video, we hear an eerily similar phase the farm worker says: “You can’t let nobody see.”
They know what they are doing is wrong.
In the video the worker is seen punching, kicking, throwing chickens; wringing their necks and running them over with forklifts; as well as “boning” them (sticking plastic rods through their beaks).
The major issues are:
-Overcrowding
-Physical alterations such as de-beaking chickens (to prevent them from pecking)
-Indoor confinement
-Neglect of suffering animals
-Abuse by factory workers
Are There Laws to Prevent This From Happening?
There are no federal laws that prevent animal mistreatment while on farms. There are also no federal laws that protect the poultry during transport and slaughterhouse treatment (these laws apply only to cattle). While a few states have anti-cruelty laws, there are rarely enforced.
This topic can go on indefinitely. What I aimed to do was present you with the issue we are all currently facing and one that needs to be dealt with if we wish to move forward as humans and evolve our consciousness past the low vibrations of killing animals. I encourage you to watch one of the movies above when you have time and educate yourselves and people you know and love on this issue so we can all come together as one and learn a alternative solution to what we are doing. Thank you for taking time to read this, and if you wish to copy, share, link, discuss, criticize, add, or suggest, feel free to do so. You do not need to register to reply. Thanks for your time and let's build a better future for all of us, animals included and mother earth.

Really, this list could go on and on, but you get the picture. It’s easy to get enough protein on a plant-based diet. What’s more, the protein comes packed with other nutritional benefits in a lower calorie package allowing you to eat even more while maintaining a healthy weight.

“The single worst thing you can do to an animal emotionally is to make it feel afraid. Fear is so bad for animals I think it is worse than pain…Even an animal who’s completely alone and giving full expression to severe pain acts less incapacitated than an animal who’s scared…and an animal in a state of panic can’t function at all.”
