Latest survey of roofing contractors reveals workloads rising and shortages intensifying.
Four out of five (81%) roofing contractors saw a deterioration in material availability in the second quarter of 2021, with the most common shortage areas still being concrete roof tiles, followed by timber battens, insulation, general timber and clay tiles. link
Shortage of school bus drivers leaves parents picking up the slack
NEW ORLEANS — Students often get assignments at the start of their school year. But this year, a school bus driver shortage is leaving parents with their own assignments: driving their kids to school themselves.
The extra assignment is prompting a dilemma. Many parents are left choosing between getting their children to school and getting themselves to work.
Advertisement "It's not going to work," said Jefferson Parish mother Ashleigh Colar, who has driven her three kids to school after route cancellations multiple times this week. "I'm going to end up losing my job. I can't keep taking time off work."
"They're starting off school on the wrong foot," said Patrick Williams, who has two daughters attending school in Jefferson Parish. "That's unfair to the child and the family, and something must be done."
KFC has warned that supply chain issues are disrupting both their food and packaging stocks nationwide.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the fast-food chain said some items would not be available because there's been "some disruption" over the last few weeks.
The statement did not mention which items on its menus have been affected or the reason for the disruption.
It said the situation is "not ideal" and that they were "working hard to keep things running smoothly".

"Please be patient with our teams...they''re doing a brilliant job despite the disruption," it continued.
The company did not say which of its restaurants would be affected. The majority (80%) of KFC outlets are run on a franchise basis.
Replying to the tweet, customers said that there were no cups or lids on drinks.
It is not known how long the disruption will last.
It comes after a previous supply chain problem in 2018 when the company had to close 750 restaurants after a delivery contract with DHL led to shortages.
Disruptions across the food and delivery industries are currently being caused by a shortage of HGV drivers, with a combination of fewer drivers from EU member states post Brexit and enforced isolation with drivers being contacted by NHS Test and Trace.
The Road Haulage Association believes there is a shortfall of about 100,000 lorry drivers across the country. link
Second wave of a global “shipping nightmare” now taking shape – expect SHORTAGES of everything
On Monday Natural News reported that Western supply chains were already in peril thanks to a combination of worker shortages, transportation shortages, and a shutdown of China’s biggest shipping port, which also happens to be the largest shipping port in the world.
“The world’s largest shipping port by cargo tonnage has shut down one of its key terminals following a confirmed case of Covid-19, putting further strain on the global shipping industry and disrupting supply chains,” the South China Morning Post reported as well.

The Chip Shortage Looks Like the Oil Shortage of the 1970s. What It Means for Stocks and the Economy.
...Instead of lines at the gas stations, there are lines at the automotive dealerships. Low new- and used-car inventories have pushed up pricing and contributed to rising inflation. Used-car prices rose about 20% in the first half of 2021, while new-car prices rose about 3%. The rise in used-car prices has started to slow, but new-car price gains are accelerating, rising about 7% year over year in July. link
Malaysian Chip Makers Still Struggling To Meet Demand, Association Says
Global demand for chips from Malaysia is still outstripping supply after a surge in COVID-19 cases disrupted production at a time when car firms and makers of phones and medical equipment are ramping up their output, an industry executive said.
Still, the semiconductor shortage could start to ease by the end of the year as more workers in Malaysia return to factories once they have been vaccinated and the government eases restrictions on critical sectors, Wong Siew Hai, president of the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association told Reuters.
“Predicting based on data I’m seeing, the situation should improve, but we still cannot fulfil the demand,” said Wong, adding that demand had not shown signs of slowing and orders had been piling up since the end of last year. link
