I wrote a poem about this. I see people talking, or more often, seeming to allude to, this topic a lot. I do not really understand it, it confuses me. Anyway, it's something that lends itself well to a poem, and I like poems ... so I wrote a poem.
What if there was no “you” and “me”?
And only “us”, in all we see.
If we could look past our petty divides,
We may be one and the same, as the sea is the tides.
If not blinded by personal need and greed,
Our success would be making the world succeed.
We live in billions of worlds, under one sky.
Separated by “me”, “myself” and “I”.
We live as individual voices inside of a head,
But imagine if we lived as a hive mind instead.
If we are all made from the same stuff, we must come from the same source.
All things must be connected and part of the same force.
What if you are me, and I am you?
What if the idea we were different was never actually true?
What if the people we admire and the people we despise,
Are insights into our own nature, seemingly through third party eyes?
What if I am you, and you are me?
What if understand this makes our world free?
If we could see we were all the same, just of a different fashion,
We’d surely live in a world with honest compassion.
If we continue to live as individuals, in our own minds contained,
Ideals of world equality and peace cannot be obtained.
But if we can see the world as “us”, we’ll have no reason to fight,
We’ll know we must help each other and make the world right.
If you are reading this now, as your own voice in your own head,
Understand it may not be your own voice, merely your own accent instead.
Understand the awareness of the thoughts we think,
May all come from the same consciousness and therein is our link.
What if our stories of Gods and saviours have never been what they seem?
What if understanding our connection is what is really supreme?
What would it mean to understand our interrelations?
We would not need laws, governance, or nations.
Imagine what we could discover, without “you” and “I”.
Perhaps we can live forever, even learn how to fly.
Just imagine how much more we could be …
If we were not so busy being just “you” and “me”.
What if there was no “you” and “me”?
And only “us”, in all we see.
If we could look past our petty divides,
