The frozen food chain has been forced to reduce opening hours this week and its northern sites have been particularly hard hit by staff absences. Pictures show aisles at some supermarkets already empty of cheese, meat, bottle water, ice cream and fresh vegetables as an expert warned food chains were 'starting to fail' due to staff shortages exacerbated by the 'pingdemic' - and one police force struggled to answer 999 calls. Sainsbury's, Tesco, Lidl and Morrisons stores in Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Southampton were seen with significant gaps on the shelves in sections including frozen fish, pizzas, bottled water, ice creams and packaged salads. The images will raise concerns that a lack of supermarket staff and delivery drivers are leading to delays in replenishing product lines, although it is likely that many of these products are in higher demand in the summer, while other shoppers reported plentiful supplies. linkThis stinks of bureaucracy. PROTESTS BREAK OUT IN ITALY (and I heard also in France) OVER VACCINE PASSPORT MANDATESProtests are now erupting across Europe against vaccination requirements, including in Italy which bore the brunt of the early stages of the pandemic attention on this continent. Now those same authorities are imposing a “green” health pass that citizens will be obligated to produce as proof that they have been vaccinated, or that they have a negative PCR test (which is valid for a short time and must be performed over and over again – thus clearly incentivizing people to opt for what at least for now looks like a more long-term “solution” – i.e., vaccination). Right now, citizens are still allowed to go outside and take a walk without the certificate, known in Italy as the “V Pass” – but they will not be able to eat indoors, go to museums, gyms, attend large events, etc, without producing one, either in digital or paper format. Seems that one got past me. I have been slowly preparing over a few years. I knew all this shit was coming. COVID, China, Deep State bullshit. As food becomes harder to come by, the crops will go in. I will be teaching myself preserving food shortly. |

I wish I could teach you and your family how to preserve foods. Canning is very important. Dehydrating is also a good way to preserve. Do you have a dehydrator? If you are looking into canning I would suggest a electric canner. Actually I have both an electric and a stovetop. But I don't use my stovetop anymore. But I still have it in case.
My electric one is a 10 qt. Meats have to be cooked in a pressure cooker. Same with some veggies. Water bath canning is used for things like jams and jellies (they last longer than using paraffin on top) and tomatoes and sauces can be canned in a water bath. It has to do with acid. Tomatoes have enough acid to be preserved in a water bath.
Look those terms up online. Find some good sites that teach you how. Buy some books on it in case the internet goes down. Something for beginners.
Don't listen to the information that says electric pressure cookers can't be used to can. I have successfully used mine many times. And I live at 5,000 feet elevation where pressure required to safely can much higher than at sea level.
You will also need canning jars, lids and rings. Don't use regular jars that product is bought in. They can't withstand the pressure and temperatures required for canning.
Store your canned goods with the lids on but loosen the rings. In case the seal didn't take the jar can blow. Better for it to unseal and alert you by noticing it isn't sealed, rather than having the jar blow up.
It can seem overwhelming but if you take it one step at a time, you will be fine.
I would love to have a garden again but the last time I stubbornly put one in I got West Nile Meningitis from all the mosquitoes we have here in the summer. Land owners surrounding us all have hay fields which they irrigate all summer long. Not their fault, it is what it is.
I would put in a garden if I absolutely had to but I do have stores of foods I can rely on for awhile.
